How it plays

Poker Call is played with your face on. Six seats, six faces, one table. Everyone can see everyone, so the game is what poker was always meant to be: reading people, not just cards. Chips only, never money.

PLAY NOW drops you straight into an open chair at a table where a game is running: at your rung, or the rung just below when that is where the players are, never a bigger stake than you chose, and never back to a table that turned you away in the last half hour while the app stays open (a new-account limit there). When nobody is at a table and nobody is waiting, it opens a Practice table instead (labelled AI players, play chips) so a hand is dealt at once, and offers you a real seat the moment somebody sits down. Every night a named Beginner table opens at the top of the lobby, where players meet at the same hour: Tea & Tells at 8pm UK, and Prime Time at 1am UK for the US evening. Your lobby shows the one nearer 8pm on your own clock, in your own time (tap Remind me on it and we tell you when its doors open); the other is in Open tables while it runs. Cash tables, Sit & Go tournaments and Practice tables all sit under one roof, climbing a ladder of rungs from Beginner upward.

AI opponents only fill Practice tables: every ladder, private and Sit & Go seat is a person. A 15-second clock keeps the game moving, a time bank (one per hand) buys a longer look when a decision is close, and three missed turns in a row sit you out with your seat and chips held.

You always know who you are playing against. Tap any seat for that player’s card: a persona worked out from their own play (the Rock, the Shark, the Calling Station, the Cardiac Kid), hands played, win rate, showdowns won, biggest pot, Sit & Go record, and the character stats (all-ins survived, pots stolen, check-raises, comebacks from five blinds, times the clock ran out, and Face Up: hands played with the camera on, with a gold crest at 10, 100 and 1,000). Camera off? Sit behind a portrait: 36 people, women and men from every corner of the world, and 16 characters, the shark, the fish, the fox and friends.

Step by step

  1. Sit down

Tap PLAY NOW for an open chair at a table with players already sitting, or choose a rung, a cash table or a Sit & Go yourself, or tap PRIVATE TABLE (right under PLAY NOW) to open a table only your friends can join: it shows a code to share, and everyone can play there (going on camera needs an Apple or Google sign-in, as at every table).

  2. Play the hand

Two cards face down, five shared on the felt. Check, call, raise or fold before the 15-second clock runs out.

  3. Read the table

Video is on at the table with consent (guests play and watch, Apple or Google sign-ins go on camera), so a bluff is a face as much as a bet.

  4. Climb the ladder

Move up through the rungs as your bankroll grows: bigger blinds, bigger reads, bigger pots.

The numbers

WhatPublished figure
Cash table rake5% of the pot, capped at 10 big blinds (50 from the Black rung)
Sit & Go house fee10% of the entry, and 90% funds the prize pool
Table buy-in bounds40 to 100 big blinds
What you see before you commit. Every table prints its rake, its buy-in bounds and the Sit & Go fee split before you sit down, and a hand that ends before the flop is never raked. The full audit of every game is on the fair play page.

Questions

Is there real money involved in Poker Call?

No. Poker Call is played entirely with chips: there is no real-money gambling and no cash prizes, at any table.

Can I bring my chips over from another poker app?

No. Other apps are run by other companies, so we cannot see or check a balance there, and chips are play money that can never be moved between apps, sold or cashed out. Everyone starts level on Poker Call, with free chips every day, and you never have to buy chips to play.

Are the other players at the table real people?

Yes, on every cash, Sit & Go and private table. AI opponents only fill seats on Practice tables, and every non-human seat is clearly labelled.

Who can go on camera?

Only the players seated at a table see and hear each other: people watching from the rail see avatars. At every table, private tables included, turning on a camera or microphone needs an account signed in with Apple or Google; at public tables the microphone starts muted, one tap to talk. Guests still play and watch. Settings lets you hide other players’ video.

What can I see about the other players?

Tap any seat for the player’s card: their table persona, hands played, win rate, showdowns won, biggest pot, best streak, Sit & Go record, badges, how long they have been at the table, and the character stats (all-ins, folds before the flop, rivers seen, pots stolen, 3-bets, check-raises, thinking time, clock-outs, comebacks, times felted). Net winnings are only ever shown to their owner.

What happens if I run out of time to act?

The 15-second clock folds you if there’s a bet to face, or checks you through if there isn’t. You get one 15-second time bank in every hand to use when a decision is close. Miss three turns in a row (or three inside one orbit) and you are sat out: your seat and chips are held for up to five minutes, tap I’m back to play on. While your connection has dropped and your seat is being held for you, the clock acts for you on a short 2-second clock, and those turns are not counted (up to 3 minutes of dropped time in any 30). Lose your last chip and a 90-second rebuy clock runs on your seat: top up before it ends or the chair goes to the next player.
